3-2-1 - We Have Lift Off
Thank you for inviting me along to your blog, Juliet. It is always a pleasure to spend time with you and your readers. Today I would like to talk about book launches.
As a writer a book launch is always special. no matter whether it is your first book or one much further on than that. On Monday 16th November 2015 I will be launching the third book in my Detective Inspector Shona McKenzie Mysteries - Killer’s Cross. I am as excited about this one as I was for all the others. This will be my third launch this year and I am sure that this one will be just as much fun. Hence the reason that this is what I am talking about today
I am fortunate in that I have been able to hold all my launches in Waterstones, Dundee. The staff there have been so helpful and supportive. The launches are always great fun and are well attended. There are a few things which I do to make sure they are a success.
Now I appreciate that not everyone will be able to use a bookshop. However, there are many places where a launch can be held, such as school church or village halls, coffee shops, or I even heard of someone who had one in their garden. Could be a bit tricky in the UK though given the amount of rain we seem to be getting at the moment.
I also make sure there is food and drink at the launch. This ensures a real party atmosphere. People also arrive early for the food. My launches are also famed for my friend’s homemade tablet. In fact I think they come for the tablet not the books. For those not in the know about tablet, it is a Scottish sweet a bit like fudge. Except nicer.
I invite people in advance and ask them to let me know if they can come. Most people look forward to them and enjoy them as a bit of a different night out. I also put the event out on Social Media, and hand out leaflets to people who I think may be interested.
On the night I talk about my writing journey and also writing the books. This time I will be talking about the research I did for the books. Despite the fact I write about murder the research is usually a lot of fun and I think people will enjoy themselves.
If you have never had a book launch before it is worth thinking about. Step out, be bold and have the part of your writing career. It will be worth it.
For those interested in Killer’s Cross, here is the blurb from the back of the book. This, and any of the books in the series would make a fantastic Christmas present for any crime lover.
Bodies with crosses carved on their chests!
All left outside Dundee Churches!
All members of the religious community!
DI Shona McKenzie has to find the common factor linking the deaths, and catch the killer before he strikes again. Is her latest case as simple as it seems?
